What do people do in this situation? for example, i bought ryan shawcross for liverpool in the close season, played stoke last night and he had a complete stinker (5.6 i think), its happened before where a player just does not turn up against his former team, for time ive just dropped the player for that particular match in the first season i have him. what does everyone do?

I actually opened this thread to say the opposite, though differently. If I sell anyone, when I play that team said player will always perform well, if not scoring. Its so frustrating.

Messi was vital for me overcoming Barca in the CL though so never really thought about it with players I've bought not sold

sometimes my players do amazing againt their old clubs and sometimes pure rubbish.

the best was Nani for me on fm09 I signed him for Chelsea and the next game was against man utd and He hit a hat trick on his Chelsea debut against them at OT :D

It really does vary, I've had players play a blinder against then, but there's always times where they have a stinker, that's just like real life.

Mine so far seemed to have done pretty bad against former clubs, especially De Rossi. I've yet to play him in a game against Roma in which he does not get sent off.

i've found they perform better after a season or two its almost like they need a while to forget old loyaties

I generally get a better performance from them, but most of the time it seems to have no real effect.

just signed di santo for blackpool and played him against wigan and he destroyed them. he didnt have a bad time at wigan either so its not as if he was extra motivated. personally dont think it makes a difference
