]Having said I would move my FM10 file over to FM11, I have finally decided to do my first FM11 story today but with the slight twist from my previous file. I will only be signing under-18 players after the first transfer window! This should make it more of a challenge as I try to push through Chelsea's youth players.

Hope you all follow again as it got quite a good following last time. Here goes :)

SAM ILLYROY TAKES OVER AT STAMFORD BRIDGE

Chelsea_Badge.jpg

Huge news coming out of Stamford Bridge this evening as Chelsea say goodbye to former manager Carlo Ancelotti, allegedly over the Italian's discontent at the manner of Ray Wilkins' sacking. 25 year old Illyroy has stepped in to replace him, and with just a few UEFA badges to prove his worth, the youngster has a lot to prove to the Chelsea fans.

Chelsea Head Coach said:
I've been waiting for this opportunity and for it to come at my dream club is fantastic. I'll definitely take the chance with both hands and we should be looking forward to a lot of success in the next few years. I'll be looking towards the youth system to bring through some talent, although I do feel the first team needs some strengthening after losing some big names in the summer, the likes of Michael, Joe and Riccy.

A telling interview, but much remains to be answered for. Chelsea's squad this season is weaker than in previous years, and it will be interesting to see how it is strengthened and whether they can retain their Premier League title.

PRE-SEASON NEWS AND RESULTS TO FOLLOW SHORTLY

CHELSEA PRE-SEASON ENDS WITH CHARITY SHIELD VICTORY
Essien-and-Mikel-joins-teammates-in-pre-season-training.jpg
Chelsea played 7 pre-season games over this summer as they looked to begin this season with a bang. The pick of the bunch was a 4-0 victory away to Chievo, which included an absolute screamer from new signing Ivan Rakitic.
Over the past month, the new manager has not held back with his signings, purchasing no less than 9 new players, first team and youth players:

1. Jonathon Santiago from Olympique Marseille, 2.1m - The first signing of the summer was young french winger Santiago, recommended to the manager by Didier Drogba, and the manager jumped in quickly to get him signing on the dotted line. There was no competition and hopefully Santiago will progress well through the youth setup.
2. Taye Taiwo from Olympique Marseille, 4.7m - Taiwo was the second signing, another player poached from Marseille, although Taye has a little more experience. A very reliable left back with a lethal left foot, he provides more experienced cover for Ashley Cole, and at a good price too.
3. James Vaughan from Everton, 4.3m - A controversial transfer due to his injury record, and he lived up to that in his first pre-season match, tearing cruciate ligaments that leave him unavailable until next March. Young, and English, he could become a top player in the future if he can deal with his injury problems.
4. Ivan Rakitic from FC Schalke 04, 4m - 22 year old Croatia international Rakitic joined for a bargain fee of 4 million pounds. Technically superb, Ivan has settled in well at Chelsea, putting in a fine display in the Charity Shield final, and could be the long term solution to Frank Lampard.
5. Phillippe Mexes from AS Roma, 6m - After the departure of Carvalho, the management decided that another experienced centre-back would need to be brought in and Mexes fitted the bill perfectly. At the peak of his career and at just 6m, the French international justified his transfer with an impeccable display against United.
6. Mathias Jorgensen from FC Kobenhavn, 1.3m - Another youngster, Jorgensen is well known to the big teams across Europe and could be a bargain at 1.3m. Already 20 years old and could be staking a claim for first team football over the next couple of years.
7. Geoffrey Kondogbia from RC Lens, 1.6m - 17 year old Geoffrey is seen as a long-term replacement for Mikel, or his backup in a couple of years. Currently Essien is the only cover for that role, so it will be interesting to see how quickly Geoffrey develops.
8. Jack Rodwell from Everton, 11.5m rising to 15m - The hottest midfield prospect in English football, Rodwell has been labelled the next Frank Lampard. Where else should he go then, than to Chelsea.
9. Christian Derflinger from Bayern Munich, 1.6m - Goes straight into the U-18 side. A very promising young player, with plenty of hard work, he will become a future Chelsea star.

And finally the report for the Charity Shield

8th August 2010, Wembley Stadium
Manchester United 1 - 1 Chelsea
(Chelsea win 5-6 on penalties)
Rakitic (89)

Chelsea left it late to ****** an equaliser, but in the end they thoroughly deserved to beat what was a lacklustre Manchester United. The match was billed as a friendly event, and it certainly came across that way as both teams struggled to motivate themselves.

The majority of early possession came from Chelsea, whose new midfield trio of Essien, Lampard and Rakitic proved very effective in carving out chances, but the majority of these were wasted by the surprisingly poor Drogba and Anelka.

Chelsea were punished after 35 minutes when Hernandez pounced on a Terry error to round Petr Cech and slide home his first goal for the club. The newboy looks to have settled in already and Ferguson looked delighted. The goal only spurred Chelsea on and they continued to make chance after chance, until in the last minute, substitute Yury Zhirkov was played in brilliantly by Drogba to slide across the box, and debutant Rakitic was on hand to tuck home his first goal for the Blues.

The match went straight to penalties, and despite a Didier Drogba miss, Chelsea cruised to victory, Yury Zhirkov netting the crucial spot kick. It was a good day for Chelsea, but it is simply the first step in what is promising to be a long season for the Blues.

Manchester United - van der Sar, O'Shea, Brown, Evans, Evra, Valencia , Carrick, Fletcher, Nani, Berbatov, Hernandez
Subs: Macheda, Scholes, Fabio
Chelsea - Cech , Ivanovic, Terry, Mexes, Cole, Essien, Rakitic, Lampard, Anelka, Malouda, Drogba
Subs: Rodwell, Kalou, Zhirkov

Birmingham 1 - 5 Chelsea
FA Premier League, Matchday 2
Drogba (9, 61, 81), Kalou (68), Rodwell (90)

Chelsea stormed to a well-deserved victory at St. Andrews' this afternoon, with Drogba on hand to score a superb hat-trick. Kalou and Rodwell bagged the other goals as the Blues got their title defence up and running.

Drogba gave Chelsea the lead after just 9 minutes, running onto Rakitic's fine through ball before slamming into the far corner past Ben Foster. Chelsea pressed for a second, but didn't make any real chances, and were punished before half-time when Mexes' clumsy challenge gave Ferguson the chance to level from the spot, which he took.

Chelsea were a completely different side in the second half though. Malouda looked deadly on the left flank, and he took the ball past both Larsson and Bordijan before swinging in a beautiful cross for Drogba to slam home left-footed to restore the lead.

Birmingham pushed on for an equaliser but were caught flat-footed from a corner when Ashley Cole ran out of defence before squaring past Johnson for Kalou to tap home easily.

Drogba then completed a fine hat-trick by rounding Foster from Kalou's through ball before Rodwell sealed a great victory in injury time, beating the dazed England goalkeeper when one-on-one.

Birmingham City - Foster, Bordijan, Johnson, Dann, Rodriguez, Larsson, Ferguson (1), Bowyer, Gardner, Hleb, Zigic
Subs - Jiranek, Murphy, Bony
Chelsea - Cech, Ivanovic, Mexes, Terry, Cole, Essen, Rakitic, Rodwell (1), Anelka, Malouda, Drogba (3)
Subs - Bruma, Kalou (1), Sturridge

JOSE MOURINHO - I WANT ESSIEN

mourinho260706_228x306.jpg

Jose Mourinho has today told reporters in Spain that he is looking to sign Chelsea's midfield engine Michael Essien.
"He is a player that has been key to their success in the past few years and I think that he would add what we are missing in the middle of midfield at the moment. I think that he would like to play for us too and Chelsea can just name us the price."
It remains to be seen how the Chelsea management will react to this revelation, but we can be sure that they won't be looking to sell such a key player any time soon.
