Southampton unveil new Manager

After days of speculation of who the new manager would be, Josh Laird has been given the position until the end of the season. Laird who led England under 19’s to Euro success, relishes the challenge, and believes he can take the Saints forward. This is what he said:

“First of all I would like to thank Nicola who has been fantastic. As academy manager I know the club well, therefore I will dismiss any rumours now that I am not experienced for the job. At the age of 35 I am still young compared to other managers. When asked if his age would have an impact McDermott said: “ Not at all, when you look at Roberto Martinez, Eddie Howe and Malky Mackay they are all young managers who have done very good jobs with the clubs.

When BBC’s Dan Roan asked Laird on transfers the new boss replied:

“I had a meeting with Nicola and I have a very very good budget to work under. That doesn’t mean because we have money we have to spend. If we do spend it will be because I feel the player will be an asset to the club. As academy director I had the responsibility of developing young players which Is want in intend to keep on doing. I will defiantly be looking for potential players.

Laird wants promotion

Speaking to sky sports earlier today, Josh Laird conceded that promotion is the minimum target for this season he said:

Yes, of course we want to get promotion, this is a fantastic club, with expectational facilites, and a club with potential to get back to the top. We have great players and staff here, now we just need to perform on the pitch. Our target is automatic promotion, then we will go on for there.
