So I've decided to take up the Man United job on Football Manager 2010 and I'm faced with a few problems with the 4-5-1 i'm employing.

1st: Can't seem to score more than 2 goals a game.

2nd: Most of my games are draws.

3nd: My main striker Rooney seems to miss so many one on one chances.

4th: I'm conceding stupid goals against the likes of Blackburn and West Ham. And recently lost Real Madrid 5-1

5th: The possesion of most of my matches never seem to go past 50 percent.

Heres my team settings:
Rigid
Control
Relatively normal defensive line
Short passing
Stand-off more
Zonal Marking

GK: Foster
LB: Evra - Fullback, Zonal,
CB: Vidic - Defend, Zonal marking, very defensive mentality
CB: Same
RB: Same
DM: Fletcher
AM: Scholes
AM: Van Der Vaart
AMR: Alexis Sanchez, Winger
AML: Nani, Winger
Deep lying forward: Rooney

Give me advice on how to set this team up more effectively so I can concede less and attack with more purpose.

Play Rooney as a complete forward. Why are your full backs so defensive? Evra is a wing back, he should be bombing forward as Nani cuts inside onto his right foot. You have 4 attacking midfielders? You need a passer in the middle, Fletcher doesn't have the distribution to get the ball forward to your attacking players. Change to a 4-2-3-1 with Fletcher/Scholes in the middle. Fletcher wins it, Scholes passes it, Van der Vaart creates/scores. Play fluid, press more - your players have high stamina, they can.

your attacking players need more creative. I think false nine didn't work without AMC.
Alexis Sanchez = Inside Forward while Nani = Winger.
RB must be on Attack duty if you set your AMR as Inside Forward, combo rules.
DM duty on defend and both CM must be support and attack duty while your striker attack, I think best for complete forward role on attack duty
