I have had this problem now for a while and I dont know whats at fault. Basically sometimes I can go couple of the days without being able to connect to the internet sometimes it fine and times like today when everything is fine then I lose connection and it takes a couple of hours to 5 or 6 hours to get connected.

My Laptop is a hp pavilion dv6000 with windows 7
My network adapter is a Atheros AR9285 803.22b/g/n WiFI Adapter
My wireless router is D-link DSL-2640R

What is your connection speed? It could just be the area you live in..

Try updating the firmware on your router mate.

Theres your problem then!

It could be down to interferance from something

someone said changing the channel the wireless router would help

Do you live in a secluded area? A village or something like that? It's more likely down to the area you live.

Shouldn't make that much difference to be honest.

Would say 11 was the best channel but 1 an 6 are good too.

If you connect to the internet using an Ethernet cable, does it work fine then? That would rule out any problem with you ISP.

And you might want to check your speed here: http://speedtest.net/

Theres your problem, which your low speeds are just adding to. Wireless speeds/connections are always slower/less reliable than wired ones.

If you can connect reliably to the net (albeit it a slowish speed) using ethernet, then either your router signal is not strong enough or it's suffering from interference.

Try moving the router away from any other electrical items or wiring, or you may have to look into wireless N routers, which give a better signal compared to wireless G routers.

Alternatively, this could be your friend. Belkin Powerline AV Networking 200mps, 2 Adapters, New Enclosures: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
