Robin you have to remember that i only took over at real madrid in mid october, so their was plenty of league games played in which most of them where 0-0 draws, so i would of easily passed the 100 goal and point mark. I also scored at least 25 goals in other competitions.
This is a very attacking tactic. What i have found in the full backs starting position is very high up the pitch, next to the CM'S and the wingers are like FW'S. This leaves the 2 CB'S and sometimes the DM to cover. Now, the opposition normally have at least 4 players up the pitch to it's kind of like 4 against 3 sometimes, but somehow the 3 of them stop the attack (by the way, no where to be seen are the WB'S. Too far up the pitch) Now this is calling for the WB'S to be made more defensive. NEVER make them more defensive. they are key players in the team. They are an outlet ball for the CM'S and help to push the opposition deeper allowing the WG'S to drive into the box. You will lose the Attacking side of the tactic if you do this.
This is a Barcelona style tactic, so the team needs to be technically gifted to play this style. As i said the defenders are left alone against more players, but this only occurs when you attacking, so your team needs to be able to keep the ball under pressure which is were the technique comes in. The CM'S are probarbly the most important players. They need to have good composure and creativity. If they loose the ball you are screwed, but once again it's a barcelona tactic and they rarely loose the ball. This might be a tactic that smaller clubs might struggle with because they might loose the ball easily, and then you know what would happen, buti havn't tried it with a smaller club so i don't know but if real madrid sometimes struggle smaller team will definitely struggle. This dosn't mean it's a bad tactic.
To the devensive side. I would say you MUST have quick defenders because lots of through balls are used against this tactic because of the high defensive line. Also you MUST HAVE A TOP QUALITY KEEPER, THEY SAVE YOU POINTS. I would say they have to be good at 1 on 1's because they occuer often against big teams. Robin i conceded most of my goals through counter attacks (refering to the DM/CB situation) and through balls. Sometimes you line up against team's like Getafe who you should easily beat (which i didn't, i will tell you why in a minute) who run around the pitch like rats. Why do they do that? MOTIVATION. 1 MAJOR TIP: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO MOTIVATE YOU TEAM, IN OTHER WORDS, KNOW HOW TO GIVE A GOOD TEAM TALK. IF YOU DON'T LEAVE IT TO YOUR ASSISTANT AND MAKE SURE YOU HIRE ONE WHO'S MOTIVATING IS AT LEAST 18. Smaller team are easily motivated against big team and will always suprise you. Back to Getafe. I was winning 1-0 at half time, but missed a stack full of chances and in the 88-91 minute scored 2 goals to win. How? because they were motivated and my team were not (MY TEAM WERE COMPLACENT). Simples
To finish, i wouldn't change much to this tactic, and remember this is the STANDARD TACTIC I AM ON ABOUT. If you want to concede less use try the DEFENSIVE TACTIC for all you games and see how that works. It's all about experimenting. Robin don't worry about the defensive side, because i was either done by complacent defenders, stupid midfielders of a screamer that got goal of the month.
Just to let you know the Chelsea job came up, and as i am a blue myself the job was to hard to ignore even though their team was weaker. I will update you on my progress. Won 7/8 so far with 1 draw. Also 1 more thiy what do you do when someone gets sent off in your team?. I was beating arsenal 4-0 at home with 60 minutes gone and my winger got sent off to brought another winger on so i had no striker and they got back to 4-3 with 12 minutes to go. Too close for my liking.
Anyway i am welcome to some more questions if you have any. Excellant work robin.
