has anyone ever been successful using a deep lying forward?
whenever I try to use one partnered with another forward up front the deep lying forward rarely ever scores (which is fairly understandable) and gets terrible ratings.
I never ever use that position now because all my forwards seem to play terrible in that position.

Have any of you ever been successful in this position?
What attributes are needed?

Thanks :)

i have used one in a couple of tactics but i typically find that the player in that role works exactly like a playmaker or trequista i would assume the deep lying forward to be a player similer to wayne rooney a strong player who has all the typical forward attributes (drib first touch finishing and heading) can pass a ball and i think fairly high teamwork

Get one with high long shot, finishing, composure, and flair if you want him to score more.
The point of DLF + Advanced combo is the DLF pull the defender out of position to create space for Advanced one.
If the defender is pulled and the DLF successfully pass the ball through, the Advanced would have the option to either shoot or cross from byline to provide ball to attacking CM and the DLF.
If the defender is not pulled, leaving space for the DLF, then he can shoot from distance.
If you don't have one with good long shot, then you can just expect him to top the assist chart. :D

Also, if your DLF is quick, you can manually set his "Run with Ball" to often + "Through Ball" to sometimes and change his mentality to more attacking.

Someone like Rooney as a DLF partnered with a Poacher like Hernandez works wonders for me

i use tevez as a DLF on support, works a treat..scores quite alot and plenty of assist's

hey bud, DLF is one of the most effective forward settings you can use :) especially if the player has the correct stats and PPM's! Players with good passing, stamina, balance, shooting, teamwork, work rate, first touch, finishing, creativity (added bonus) decisions, off the ball and strength..

Guiseppe Rossi, Rooney, RVP, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez to name a few :)

You also need to make sure he never runs from deep allowing him to drop into the pocket in doing so bringing out the one defender and allowing the quick striker to make darting runs in behind the defenders..

I made this tactic to replicate United so far this season, especially the Rooney role aka: Deep lying forward/attacking mid and the 2 Cm's and the 2 wingers ..

you can see the settings I have used for the DLF if you want and incorporate them into your own tactic :) or use it as is if you wish!

just a query raikan007 im using a tweaked version of someone else tactic, having implemented the rooney role ( dlf-att ) along with hernandezs pace.

im finding it difficult to work consistently i.e rooney will score more than assists? where as javier will score 3 or 4 one game then not score for 6 or 7 which is very frustrating!!

if i upload the tactic could you please take a look at it and assist me in any improvements as im happy with the way the team plays in general just want these 2 to have more of an impact!

much love

hey bud, I will definately try and have a look at it for sure :)

if you are using downloaded tactics what I can suggest is taking a look at the setup I have made for this exact partnership in the tactic here: you can implement these into your current tactic and make the Dlf (Stl) your playmaker :)

This is what Rooney and Hernandez did in this tactic in the 1st season :)

I used it with Millwall and played John Marquis there and he was amazing scoring 23 goals

I used Hulk as a deep lying forward in my Porto save. He got over 40 goals that season in a 4-5-1

Off topic but what skin and face pack are you using :)

Skills

I'm under the understanding the DLF is for the bigger clubs, containing more skillfull players as this role requires a quite strong player, literally, but he also has to possess quite a mental skill set (creativity, anticipation, decisions, workrate, teamwork) besides this the player also has to be quite technical, possessing dribbling, passing, perhaps longshots, "technique", crossing and first touch.

Fact is that not many players possess all these skills but some of the ones i've found and have used for this role is: Wayne Rooney, can also be used as a complete striker but due to his lack in dribbling and technique in general, i believe he's better in this role with long shots set to rarely, due to his ppm's.

Besides Rooney players such as Quagliarella, Chinedu Obasi and even Dimitar Berbatov possess the skill to play this role and does it well, i've especially have had success with rooney and dimitar playing side by side switching roles between a DLF and an Advanced forward scoring goals at will.

I believe for the lower ranked teams a more physical less technical and mental player playing target man role could have the same supplier role or if that's not available then a technical mental skilled offensive midfielder eventually a playmaker can play supplier role, i believe the DLF is a combination of the two nearly requiring the skills of a complete forward, hence being rarely possessed. :)

If you mean succesfull dlf by him scoring a hat full of goals then no..never my dlf rarely gets above 15 a season but i have sergio aguero alongside him getting 40+ a season , its from all the little flick ons and the space created, by the way i only ever use Raikan007 `s setings for a dlf, i swear the guys a genius.
