what's a good gaming laptop?

that'll cost around £300-500

thanks!

There is no such thing as a gamer-laptop. For proper gaming you need a desktop.

There is, you just have to pay a lot more even though you are getting less in terms in hardware power *Cough* Alienware *Cough*. Although I do agree that if you want to properly game on it; you need a desktop (far more convenient as well due to potential upgrade and overclocking ability).

Anyway, you probably won't get a great gaming laptop for that price. The most you will probably get is something like a Dell XPS 15 bottom spec laptop even though that is over your budget by £49. Even then, you would only be getting 2GB of RAM with an i5-2430m processor and a mediocre GPU with the NVIDIA GT525m.

With that you would probably be able to run most games, just not at a maximum graphical setting (I would definitely recommend upgrading the RAM to 4-8GB though).

I know:) It's just like one of those "general facts", but with some exeptions to the rule.

A good specced Alienware mx17 will do for most new games, but if you can afford one of those babies (costs about 2000£ and up in Norway) just for gaming, I'd rather build 2 ridiculously overpowered desktops. Or one ridiculously overpowered desktop with a 120Hz 27 inch state of the art monitor, AND a more than decent laptop on top of the ridiculously overpowered PC combined for the same price as a good Alienware.. If you are gonna spend that kinda cash, why limit yourself to a 15 or 17 inch screen? Besides, it's not really portable, it's draggable:)

Maybe I'm just jealous... at the moment all the PC I got is this old "gamer-laptop", a Dell XPS M1710. Back in 2006, it was a graphical beast of a laptop with 1920x1200 rez and a "real graphics card", but I can barely play Battlefield 2 on this. For FM 2012 it does the job though.

Hi Guys,

Alienware.

Yes, they're expensive, and yes, they probably aren't the best value for money, but they look the part and you're pretty much guaranteed to get a laptop that will run most games.

For your price range though, I'd suggest finding a site where you can customise one yourself. Be sure to load up on RAM: it's a cheap way to make your computer just that bit better.
