TEAM NEWS

Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccinni, Santon; Taylor, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez; Cisse, Ba

Sunderland: Mignolet; Bardsley, O'Shea, Turner, Richardson; Larsson, Cattermole, Gardner, McLean; Sessegnon; Bendtner

Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse will be fit for Sunday despite a groin injury ruling him out of Senegal's friendly.
Cheick Tiote is also expected to play, but Shola Ameobi has been struggling with illness and could miss out.
Sunderland full-back Phil Bardsley is a major doubt with a calf problem, while back-up keeper Kieren Westwood is out.

Nicklas Bendtner and Sebastian Larsson should be fit but Stephane Sessegnon may be jet-lagged after returning late from international action with Benin.

Preview

This latest chapter in the history of Tyne versus Wear comes in a relatively bright period for north-east football, with both clubs in the top half of the Premier League - and, a little further south, Middlesbrough trying to maintain a push to rejoin them amongst the elite.

What happened at the Hawthorns wasn't nearly as painful to Mackems as events in this fixture last season, mind you. Newcastle's 5-1 win was their biggest derby success since 1956 and might have sowed the first seeds towards Steve Bruce's sacking as Sunderland boss some 13 months later. Never mind the fact that he steered his team to finishing above Newcastle at last season's end - the campaign's most defining moment for many fans would have been the 'Halloween horror show' at St James' Park. When Newcastle then won 1-0 on Wearside at the start of the current season, it really was the beginning of the end for Bruce. That said, Newcastle are still smarting from throwing away a two-goal lead to draw against Wolves last weekend, while Sunderland suffered their heaviest defeat of the season - 4-0 at West Brom.

This is Martin O'Neill's first taste of the biggest game his club plays, but he can draw positively on experience of fierce rivalry from his last two managerial posts. At Aston Villa he won four out of four against Birmingham. In 27 Old Firm games his Celtic side won twice as many as they lost (16 against eight).

Alan Pardew has won one derby and drawn one since becoming Newcastle boss, and the way he talks about the game, the club and the area these days he almost sounds like a proud son of Tyneside! He'll be as desperate as any genuine Geordie to see United stretch their unbeaten run to six home games in league and cup.

It's a high noon Sunday start for one of my favourite fixtures on the planet. Anyone else got goose bumps?!

Post your predictions here and I will release the team news as soon as I hear anything. :)

I am hoping for a 2-0 win for Newcastle.

Sunderland 0-6 Newcastle score prediction!

LETS 'AVE 'EM!

This is going to be a brilliant game, which both sides have a good chance of winning. Personally, I don't mind who wins but I just want a great spectacle for the neutral supporters (like me)! I predict a 3-1 win for Newcastle, at their home ground, with goals from Demba Ba, Papiss Cissé and Yohan Cabaye. I think Sunderland will take the lead, though, with Stéphane Sessègnon poaching an effort near the start of the game.

Going for a score draw myself 2-2. Though if Newcastle get beat I'm not even going to go on facebook. All me mates will just fill the pages with rage lol. Think Larsson will get a goal via free kick too

3-1 Ncastle, Ba x3, Larsson x1 free kick

SMB

Cattermole booked after 40 seconds. Target him for the rest of the game please Newcastle, get him sent off. Such a ****.

First yellow. Cattermole misses the Everton game

I like both teams and I think it's going to be a great match but i'm hoping for a Sunderland win just so Liverpool have a chance to close the gap on Newcastle, especially how yesterdays tie turned out :(

This is getting silly. It's a football match not a boxing match. Both managers need to get them calmed down or this match will finish with 9 players on each side

Who is the ******* commentator on ESPN, he is a ******* ******. 'No contact on Simpson'? What ******* game is he watching?

Dear lord, neither team will end with.. PENALTY?! WHAT THE ****?!

What the ****! That happens every time the ball goes into the box, if he does it once, he has to do it every ******* time a corner or free kick is taken. **** off Mike Dean.

What a stupid thing to do by WIlliamson. Was all over him. Good call by Ref. Stupid pen to give away.

Worst. Refereeing. Ever.

Why? Williamson dragged a player down by the shirt in the penalty area. Rules are rules. Players have to learn they cannot grab the shirt. Simple as.

Brave call from the ref, but I guess somebody had to stamp their authority on shirt pulling in the box sooner or later.

Oh lets all bow to ajt, king of all rules which must be obeyed at all times. This is a freaking derby, the 25 yellow cards and penalty for ******* shirt pulling aren't in the spirit of the game. Fine its a penalty but the entire game Mike Dean has been sucking donkey balls.

If this was Everton Liverpool you'd be spouting your suarez **** and all sorts of bull, and considering this is a far superior derby of which you'll never understand, you can do one.

Not even going to bother reply because your non-sensical.

Good spell by Newcastle toward HT there-though I think that should've been a pen for Newcastle toward the end there. Some good stuff by Newcastle in last 10 mins though
