£32mil to spend

I did have Rodallega playing excellent last season as an IF at AML 16 goals 15 assists, 6 MoM, av r 7.51. So really need to replace him. (had 10mil clause in his contract and League winners tottenham got him :()

Tactics I'm using: Raikan's DM 4-3-3, variations of a counter and control being trained, and the other is Raikan's awsome AMC 4-3-3.

All roles in formations are the same.

Also hoping the counter 433 DM will work for champs league?

Current key players:

Wilfried, Tshabalala, Kranjcar

Other important players:

Hargreaves, Cahill (only just signed)

Thanks in advance

that's a lot of money. look at getting christian eriksen, sigurdsson, willian, douglas costa, kadlec, kovacic, kara, ruben yttergard jenssen, scott sinclair (i'm serious, he's incredible for my celtic side when played as inside forward on the left wing), carlos fierro if you can..so many many possiblities. and your counter 4-3-3 is not likely to work in the champs league unfortunately (this is in my experience). the sides are quality enough that even if you go in with a defensive formation, they are likely to score and then your team cant respond fast enough to a change in formation and tactics . go in with a 4-3-3 with 3 central mids, and one as a ball winning midfielder with defence duty. i think that might work better. also, your target should be to beat the worst team and the second worst team at home, draw against the second worst team away, beat the worst team away...and then anything you get against the best team will be a bonus. thats the key to making the knockout rounds. if you want, you can use that defensive formation against the best team in your group while playing away.

make some signings in midfield btw...and why such a defensive formation?

Thanks for all those suggestions malhar, believe it or not I couldn't sign one of them apart from Fierro and Sinclair but he has a release clause in his contract for £14mil and I'm just not sure I can pay that for him. I might consider Junior Hoilett instead as I can get him for £5.5mil. Signings so far have been Kameni and Rodwell. I'm ok for the AMC position as Kranjcar and Bressan can both play there. Really need AML and AMR back up, considering getting Pienaar as Spurs are throwing him away dirt cheap, but he is 31 so 2 season signing at most..

Also who does Kara play for/full name as I searched and returned with 400 people!

The awsome AMC is more of a 4-2-3-1, what formation would you suggest then? I had some good results with the 433 DM hence why I got 4th!

kara plays for Bursaspor in Turkey....also look at at getting Lenny Nangis for AML he is a natural striker tho but that pace would be brilliant on the wings

well, if you're not confident enough that your team can compete with the best, then i would definitely suggest you stick with your formation. Kara plays for Tromso in the Norwegian league, and so does Yttergard Jenssen, both are very cheap (less than 2M) and both will be unbelievable signings for your club. you might have to add the norwegian league to your game first, but its definitely worth it. Kameni and Rodwell are excellent signings btw! especially Rodwell, he's almost impossible to get. who's your first choice AMR? have a look at Jeremy Menez at PSG, see if he's interested. Joel Valencia from Zaragoza is also an AMR and with enough game time and the right guidance, he can be an absolute tank.

as for formation, i usually start out with a 4-3-3 and the roles i described earlier since almost all the sides in the champs league, if not league are better than mine....then, as my team improves, i gradually employ a 4-2-3-1 in the league to begin with, with an amc, an IF on the left wing and an out-and-our winger on the right...then i begin to use 4-2-3-1 everywhere when my team begins to dominate. and the two central midfielders i use as advanced playmaker and ball winning midfielder, but you can use whatever roles you want depending on the players you have. sorry for the length of the post, and good luck :)

lol which kara are you talking about? he definitely starts out at Tromso, check his history mate. and yeah, nangis would be a pretty good signing.

Kara is at Ajax in the new patch - i think he switched over in jan

Sigursson is at wolves and they want 13mil for him, so I think I'll tap him up through out the season and get him Jan or next season. Kara is at a very bad performing Parma so think I should get him for about 5-6mil, he's definitely got some beastly stats! At AMR I've got Siphwie Tshabalala, he plays immense there, scores a few screamers which is always great to see! I'll look at Joel Valencia and Jeremy Menez, also I've got Victor Moses who I could train as my IF on AML or use him as a winger on the right.

Also just realised I need a RB too, I've looked at Timothy Chandler from Freiburg (got relegated) seems to have stats that could fit in with my style of play.

timothy chandler is good yeah..what about sime vrsaljko? has any club bought him? if not, you're in luck, just swoop in for him..he'll be very cheap and he is very solid. or have a look at romario from vitoria who i have at my current celtic save..he is incredible..very solid and gets a fair few assists too..

lol..first saw him at bursaspor in mine..i guess he was a late discovery for me

Look in columbia some good players national team. and they get on with roda

I tried for Sime Vrsaljko he's at Newcastle, got my bid accepted but didn't want to sign and he's been there for a season. So in the end I went for Timothy Chandler, In the first couple of friendlies he's been very good! Most of the players listed have gone to top clubs or the top players won't step down to Wigan, so I can't compete. Kara will come to me for 10mil from Parma, is that worth it or should I look else where? would be great to have someone take over the DM/BWM from Hargreaves after this season.

Managed to get Joel Valencia for 900k hopefully he'll turn out good!

Kara will be worth it. it's unfortunate he had moved clubs already or you could have got him for under 2M. but dont worry 10M is still worth it, and he will be the perfect person to take over the DM/BWM position from Hargreaves, seeing as he's 10 times better. Joel Valencia can turn out to be one of the best wingers in the world given the right amount of game time, and given the right training. check this out..this is how good he can become: FM 2012 player profile of Joel Valencia | Football Manager Scouting Network

I agree with 'malhar', Kara is definitely worth it. Will be better than Hargreaves, and can even play backup CB in time of need.
In june of my third season, I got Fernando Gago from R. Madrid for free (!), so maybe he's cheap/available for loan in your save?
If T. Chandler doesn't cut it at RB, have a look at Romàrio from Vitoria (Brazil). He's only 18 in start of 2nd season, but is already good enough for Premier League. And will of course only get better... :)
