Changing backup tactic makes team forget primary one - why?

November in my 5th season. I've had three tactics since pre-season and the team had become fully fluid at the two main tactics (a 4-2-3-1 deep and a 4-4-2 attacking). I'd been tinkering with a third tactic (4-2-3-1 narrow) and had yet to play a game with it, when I changed my mind, dropped the tactic and created a different one to experiment with (3-2-1-3-1).

I was expecting the team to be clueless at the new tactic, but for some reason, they completely forgot all about their unchanged primary tactic, which is now barely at accomplished level. They are actually more familiar with the bonkers new formation that they've never trained or played. Thankfully they still remember the 442 so I've got some hope for the next few games while I max the match prep workload again, but I reckon it sucks that I have to disrupt training.

Has anyone else seen this happen? Is is a bug or is it trying to simulate something, and if so, what?

Is there anything I should do if I want to keep two stable tactics while experimenting with a third?

I've been having the same problem. I'm pretty sure its a bug as I can't see any reason why changing a back-up formation would make them forget the original one.
