Stevenage F.C are delighted to announce Declan Hendry as their new manager

Hendry signed a 3-year contract at Broadhall Way. Declan stated that he is excited at the prospect of managing Stevenage and is raring to make an impact. Phil Wallace commented on the recruitment of Hendry by saying "Declan looks like he has a lot of potential to make a success at the club, the fans can trust me and Mr Makin on this decision. He is one of the best young managers around and has the ability to make this club the greatest." The new boss said earlier today "I still can't believe it! It's a wonderful moment for me and I am honoured that the chairman can trust me with this role and have faith with me to do the right job. I am taking over from when Gary Smith guided this club to promotion, there is a lot of pressure on my back to match his success but I have the out-most confidence that I can do this."

PRE-SEASON REVIEW

Impressive performance from Stevenage, lots of goals and good team spirit. The only disappointment was at Blackburn with the team giving a good display in the first half they couldn't hold out against a strong Premier League team in the second half. Goals from the likes of Luke Freeman, Mark Roberts and Angelo Balanta scoring on his first game in a Boro shirt.

With the first game of the nPower League 1 getting closer and closer Sky Sports takes a look at some of the teams chances the year. With Sheffield Utd relegated from the Championship pundits suggested they wont be serving another year in the division and have been tipped to be the champions and securing automatic promotion. At the other end of the table the battle for relegation is what many teams dread. Newly promoted, Stevenage, have been predicted to go immediately back down to the nPower League 2. Declan Hendry suggests that his team have great team spirit to overcome these predictions and to stay in the League 1. The opening day of the campaign starts on Saturday 6th August with teams like Charlton, Sheff Utd and Stevenage kicking off on that day.

Stevenage Kick Start Season With Impressive Display

Declan Hendry got off to a brilliant start to his Stevenage career. With a fantastic display from Boro as they wrapped up the 3 points in the opening day of the season. The first half saw Luke Freeman and Mark Roberts giving Stevenage a 2-0 lead at the break. Walsall were silenced in the second half as Lawrie Wilson scored 5 minutes into the second period which more than likely gave no chance of Walsall making a comeback. Hendry faces Brighton in the English League Cup First Round next. Will there be another impressive display from Stevenage?

Stevenage stunned Championship side Brighton with a impressive 4-0 win at home. The Boro were non-favourites to progress to the next round of the Carling Cup but Stevenage manager Declan Hendry ignored these predictions and managed to secure Stevenage a place in the next round.

Six of the best for Stevenage

Mousinho (2), Charles (20,66,72,76), Freeman (90)

A humiliating game for Leyton Orient as they suffered a home loss to a very strong impressive Stevenage. The final score of 6-1 was fully deserved as Stevenage totally controlled possession. The game will be remembered for a remarkable display of goalscoring from Stevenage player Darius Charles as he banged in the ball into the back of the net on 4 occasions. The other goal scorers were John Mousinho who got them off to a flying start scoring in the second minute of the game, Jamie Cureton pulled one back for Leyton Orient but Charles Darius doubled the lead and then later on in the game he added another 3 to his tally and then in the final minutes of the game Luke Freeman score the 6th and final goal of the game embarking on a fantastic display from Stevenage.

Goals from Luke Freeman and Lawrie Wilson provided the 3 points to Stevenage. The players must now focus on the upcoming Carling Cup tie as they are hosting a strong Championship side Watford.

Roberts (37), Charles (87), Byrom (90+1)

In an even game at Vicarage Road, Watford came away with victory in the Carling Cup Second Round match. Stevenage took the lead in the 37 minute with a strike from Mark Roberts a few minutes later Troy Deeney of Watford made the score level which was just one of his 3 goals he scored in the game. In the second period Deeney score yet again 5 minutes into the half, then a mistake late on in the 80th minute from Ronnie Henry as he knocked the ball passed his own line. The match was surely over for Stevenage but a few changes in the tactics from Hendry motivated the team to make an incredible late comeback. Goals from Darius Charles in the 87 seemed too late for them to score another, but a few seconds from time Byrom slipped passed the defence and tapped the ball passed the keeper to make an impressive comeback. Extra time was needed to settle these two teams. The Stevenage players couldn't handle the tiredness and eventually conceded another two goals.
