I decided, that after doing several successful saves within the MLS, EPL and Blue Square Premier League, that it was time to tackle the Championship. I could have decided to take on a fairly easy save such as West Ham or Birmingham, but I have decided to throw myself amongst the deep-end by taking the reigns at Portsmouth.

Everybody knows of the well documented debts and problems within the club, so any help or advice regarding free transfer deals, what to do or what not to do etc. would be much appreciated.

Lets save the club together! :)

Sell the whole club, every player, and then just loan 20 something players without paying their wages. That should bring the club out of its financial crisis.

I was unaware that it was possible to loan 20 players within 1 season, never mind 20 players at once ;)

That wouldn't work as you are only allowed to play 5 domestic loanees in the match squad and you aren't allowed 20 loanees in a season. On top of all that you have problems bringing foreign loanees so you are best off signing 6 maybe 7 loanees and sell about 4 play

Its really difficult to offload the players at Portsmouth , About 4/5 of the top earning players have just joined and won't leave until the next season but i managed to loan a few out.

lil bochet AML free. loan craig dawson, ross barkley and vellios :) shud help u out abit

Vellios can become a fairly decent force. As it stands, the board won't allow me to sign anyone, even though there is now a couple of milion in the bank due to the takeover. £90 a week is all I can offer to anybody. Wish me luck guys, I'll keep you posted!

Ohh, and I beat Charlton and Leeds to reach the Caring Cup 3rd round, however, I have been drawn a nice little tie at Old Trafford. Not cool.

Buying players shouldn't be your worry right now it should be ensuring the club don't go into liquidation. Firtstly I would suggest getting rid of any unwanted/unused reserve players. Then cut your first team down to around 14 players. Keep Halford and Huskelepp no matter what happens ... you lose them you lose your job trust me. Bring in youth players to add to the 14 players you have. I did a pompey save a while back and it would'nt allow me to bring in any players, not even on loan due to clubs wanting a percentage of wages. So i decided to go the parent club route. ALthough I still had problems with this but the beauty of this arrangement is you get paid for the link with a club. You then need to look at your staff some on stupid wages which is not needed. If you can balance the books and have decent finances by January you will see a decent return in the transfer window. 2nd half of the season will be the main target, make sure you are still in reach of the other clubs and with some shrewd loan signings and a few freebies you can starve off relegation. I would suggest getting rid of Dave Kitson (can be sold for around 500k), i would keep Benjani until January. Other players like Rocha tend to get sold by the board. Either way most players will run out of contract at the end of the season so you starve off relegation the fun starts building a new team the following season. But ideally you want to sort out to the books so you can offer Halford and Husklepp deals before the end of the season. You say a takeover granted you 1,000,000 quid?? What is your wage budet like at the moment ... over?? If so by how much. Also have you asked the board for a higher wage budget if they injected that much money?? Sometimes they allow it which allows you to adjust the budgets.

Good luck man, keep me posted either way it's a great save which will be a challenge. But a challenge you will enjoy!!

Scrimp every penny. Scout reports and missions cost. Skeleton staff and players. When there's a gap, make a friendly but make your under 18's play. Get rid of any u18's on pro contracts. Make sure that non of the u18's get pro contracts by going into the team policy. Negotiate contract offers to the point where the person is close to walking away. Don't panic and offer players 30,000 a week after 5 games. You will find a squad eventually. Take your time. Just avoid relegation for the first few years and then start moving up a bit. It could take 5-6 years to get promoted. How far through are you now?

Near enough everything you suggested, has happened! I wanted to keep Rocha to be honest, but I didn't have a say in the matter. Benjani and Mokoena will be leaving in January. Norris may also leave as he is yet to put in a good shift. United beat me 3-0 at Old Trafford in the end, which was to be expected. Apparently, my transfer budget stands at £2.52 million, with my balance being £3 million, however I am still £30,000K over my wage budget, which will be reduced through the sales of Benjani and Mokoena in January. I don't plan on buying any players at all this season, maybe try and bring in an experienced freebie, with a couple of younger players also on my radar. My first 14 games resulted in 4 wins, 6 draws, and 4 losses in the league, with my cup run coming to an abrupt end. I am in November now, 8 points on the table, whilst sitting in 21st. I would be in 13th place had it not been for the 10 point reduction due to administration. I find myself 18 points off the last play-off place so that is a distant dream. Already seems to be a very enjoyable save, with Huseklepp and Kanu being my most influential players. Definitely recommend trying your own Portsmouth saves!

5-6 years to get promoted (dont listen to him). 1st year just make sure you don't get relegated. 2nd year depending on the financial situation you may be able to bring in some ok players. The fact is u need to sell some of your better players in January because a lot will run out of contract at the end of the season, make money on them now (even at a reduced price) before u lose them on a free. If you have money to bring in some ok free players and loanees, with the right tactics you can get mid table finish, possibly sneak play-offs. Like you say bowers if you didn't have the 10 point recduction at the start you would be close. 5-6 years is way too long i would say 3rd year you would want a young decent team pushing for promotion to the best league in the world.

Keep the updates coming man :D

A ridiculous series of results has reopened the slight possibility of the play-offs, however, it would be a bad idea to go up this season, as my team would need a huge overhaul, and it would be too much too soon I imagine. My record in the league is now, 8 wins, 6 draws and 4 losses, with an awesome run of 4 wins on the bounce, and 15 points (from my last 21 points available). I have just experienced one of my favourite games in FM/CM history, a 4-1 win at St. Andrews, with Benjani bagging a brace. I am now 16th with a GD of +6, 20 points, 14 points away from the play-offs... Okay, maybe I jumped the gun with my play-off claim, I got a little bit excited haha! Another mention for Benjani, he now has 9 goals and 4 assists from his last 9 games. Doing me proud!

Hope you're enjoying this as much as I am!

Also, I have scored 31, which is 4th most in the league, and I am currently 2nd in the form table. Having 'very high attacking movement' match preparation for several months has paid off, something I don't usually have set so intensely.
