I'm sick and tired of the AI playing Overload against me. Seriously...

It's pretty obvious when the AI does it as they press ridiculous high, close you down like there's no tomorrow and just generally being aggressive for practically 90 minutes.

How do I counter the AI playing Overload, because that's what they're doing (or something similar). Doesn't matter if you spend time trying to work out your tactics and ways of approach just for the opposition Overload you.

That's what I'm currently playing. I have 2 versions of it, counter and control. These two tactics were working fine for me last season, now every game is such a struggle and a simple 442 Overload blows the team the out of the water. Watching the game I saw that Everton's midfield duo did not go forward at all. So I assume they must of both been on defend.

I too had issues with AI teams overloading for 90 minutes, even Vs weaker teams I tended to struggle with my general tactic.

All I can really suggest is you make a counter tactic that parks the bus and forces AI to change, in the mean time your able to hit them hard on the break and exploit their super high line.

For what its worth this is my tactic for big teams/away and AI overload situations.
All sliders are default and I start with the shouts 'play narrower' + 'clear to flanks' + 'exploit flanks' and take it from there.
OI's, I just try to control opposition by making them play from weaker foot and/or pushing them inside.

Philosophy: Very rigid.
Strategy: Counter.
--------------------------
Passing style: More direct.
Creative freedom: More disciplined.
Closing down: Press more/Default
Tackling: More aggressive.
Marking: Man
Crossing: (Drill if poacher is faster) (Float if poacher is taller/stronger)
Roaming: Stick to position.
----------------------------
Playmaker: No
Target man: Yes
Target man supply: Run onto ball.

I would say that it's not the strategy Overload, but the combination of the opponents using the shout Hassle and their players being fired up. Here, the key lies in trying to hold possession in advanced positions along with having enough players moving between the lines to provide easy passing options along with the constant movement that unable the AI from being successful in their strategy of marking their man tightly and closing him down quickly.

Now, if one is playing with Reading and are facing Utd at Old Trafford, you should still loose most games by using this method abi e should see hut unceasing improve vastly.

Naturally, it also comes down to how your tactic approach. If using a tactic tweaked in a trial and error manor( or a Downloaded one) ,then it might be more difficult to know why things work the way they do, but if using the TC settings, it should be pretty easy to see how to change things.

I have to keep rage quitting this game against Everton (only game so far) because I think it's ridiculous.

How can a team play such a high line (really high, seen nothing like it), be so aggressive for 90 minutes and make it work. It just ridiculous. Why must I change every single aspect of my tactic just to combat a ridiculous to a match. Even when I do, nothing works.

If I try to Overload an opponent for 90 mins, I'll most definitely lose the game.

The AI almost never plays overload. It does uses shouts, and you can get very direct and robust using them.

If the AI can do it, you can do it. It's literally that simple.

You don't have to change your whole tactic, unless its that imbalanced that it simply cannot withstand it, no matter what shouts you use (assuming you are making the right choices).

So how do I counter an overly aggressive AI with a ridiculous high line? I need to know, otherwise I can't progress because this particular match is ******* me off.

You either need to be able to combat their physical midfield presence, outnumber and then outpass them, or bypass their midfield entirely. They are playing a high line, why are you not exploiting this with pacy runners in behind?

What would a real life football team do in this case? I usually have a deep lying playmaker, i would have him as my deepest midfielder, using a physical mid ahead to protect them, and counter with bags of pace in behind using his long range passing.

This does not help me at all, you're asking me question I don't have the answer to.

Pass out from the back, they lose the ball from sheer pressure that Everton put on me.
Goal kick, Everton win the ball back pretty soon even though I have a 6'4 striker with 17 Jumping.

I outnumber them in midfield 3 to 2. My tactic is set up to pass short. Doesn't matter 442 Overly Aggressive wins the ball back in seconds. There's is no punishment for the team being so aggressive and slide tackling at every opportunity.

My fastest striker has 14 pace, I'm limited. I can exploit space, as I get have the ball they get it off me by being overly aggressive.

Again, why must I have to abandon my whole way of playing just to combat an overly aggressive AI. IMO it's silly.

I am giving you the various options. I've given you three different approaches you can take. Its up to you to decide which one you can take.

There is a risk and reward for every set up, theirs is being susceptible to quick balls in behind, being drawn out of position by high pressing, and giving away fouls.

I really don't know what you want, the opposition has you on toast, but you don't want to do anything about it? Unless you are fundamentally flawed against any particular approach, you don't have to abandon anything. However you clearly cannot impose your game on them so, you need to vary something slightly.

If you haven't got the players to pull off any of the answers, you're just going to have to chalk it up to a loss.

Post up your approach.

This is the reason I hate plug and play, because it never teaches anyone how to adapt when the AI shifts approach. Then you get people complaining, when in truth they have never really learned how to play.

I know tactics really only work well when you have the players for the positions prescribed.

The tactic I posted above really stresses AI players, they become frustrated after 10-15 minutes of not breaking it down.
For me I don't get more possession but 80% of the I do get more shots and many more CCC's and I dicked Arsenal 7-0 with it.
They just kept coming forward and we just kept hammering them on the counter (one of those games where we just clicked I guess)

Something I have noticed is the lack of killer balls against high d lines?!
It was perhaps over exagerated in fm12, but appears almost non existent in fm13.
I'm not bashing the ME, even if I play with a super SUPER high line, the AI doesn't seem to try the ball over the top to a striker hanging on the last defender, or a through ball between the 2 CBs, if they do manage it they then run away from the goal and wait to get tackled by one of my players.
What I've seen instead is even when playing high d lines with high closing down the defence retreat to to form a line of defenders in front of the box and then..... This is when they seem to realise they are On high closing down and one will leave the line and the ball gets played into the space and the opposition scores, it's annoying as I could quite easily accept conceding goals as a result of my high d line and high pressure but not from dodgy defending around my own area, same goes for the other way round when the AI plays a high d line, players refuse to acknowledge the existence of players in bags of space but will happily pass them the ball a few seconds later when they have been closed down.

If they are all over you in midfield, just start out by not letting 2 out of 3 central mids hold up the ball.

I don't have a plug and play tactic.

And yes, I'm not the best at this game.. Sorry.

I can see why, they cannot defeat the low block, if they are not being measured, you frustrate and unnerve the opposition. You are basically doing the reverse of what happens to a lot of FM users. Because they AI keep coming in wakes, rather than trying to pick you apart, they are making things much worse, and you have bags of space to hit them in.

There needs to be more lateral movement in FM, to encourage more through balls. Also need more pacy on the ground ones.

I was talking about plug and play in general, it's bug bear of mine.

Nothing wrong with not being "good" at the game. What's vital is to not go "its the game out to get me" etc etc. Once you go down that route, its very difficult to see why you are going wrong (which is hard enough already, more feedback is needed).

You also need to be prepared to lose. And learn from losing as much as you would from winning.

I fell into the mindset of fighting fire with fire and then I remembered... WATER :)

I'm going to post some screen shots, give me a minute.
