Which do you consider more important? I'm looking at two ST regens, and cant decide which to buy. They both have pretty much the same Technical stats. One ha better mental stats, such as Creativity, Composure and Flair, but his physical stats are a lot worse. All of his physical stats are worse than the other guy, and most are 12 or lower, whereas the other guy has 12 or higher in all!

Which one do I take? Ill post a screenshot if Im allowed?

Depends which role you're playing them as. And of course you're allowed to post a screenshot XD

Ill be playing them as a lone-striker as Poacher/Adv fwd.

I thought you couldnt ask a this v that player question though?;)

Depends on so many things, but as a rule of thumb, I would prioritise mental.

Well a poacher needs traits from both Mental and physical. But he would otherwise be useless as a poacher if he didn't posess any pace/acceleration.

Both. Mental stats are what make good players great. 'tis why Defour is such a beast.

I'd take the one on the left, but they're both low value - get both? The worse that can happen is you make a decent/great profit on one of them, and you double your chances of them developing well. :)

The one on the right is pretty poor tbh and the one on the left aint gonna be that good as his pace/acceleration is ****. The one on left defo has more potential though.

I would take both, but dont have the money:(

have your team domestic player bias higher with the English dude on the left.

I'd take the guy on the left... you can help train physical stats pretty quickly but mental stats are harder to gain I find.
Both pretty decent tho!

if you could sell to buy both i would, because they're the perfect partnership??!!

if you could sell to buy both i would because they're the perfect partnership really aint they? and having them play alot togeva will help at sucha young age, and there mental stats will grow more

choose the 17yr old player because:

1) mental stats are the most important in my opinion
2) physical stats take a little more CA/PA points but at 17yrs old, he has many years to develop (3 on the other striker already)
3) for poacher/adv forward you dont need work rate and team work stats, you need good off the ball, flair and composure stats which the 17yr old provides

on the other hand you can say that most mental stats can be passed on through tutoring, this is true, however the 17yr old has already great stats in most departments and some good specific training in pace/acceleration, you have yourself a great striker :)

The one on the right has better work rate and determination, which is normally a sign that he is going to develop faster than the one on the left. However, there is three years difference between them, and so I reckon the 17 year old, just for developments sake is the best one to go for. I believe that the 20 year old would have turned out to be the better player had you picked him up at an earlier age but too late for that.

17 year old for me, although I don't see either of them being fantastic poachers - but great players in other roles. (16 passing, would be a shame not to use him in a deeper role ie deep lying striker than poacher to get the best out of this).

To answer your original question, I pick mental stats over physical stats everytime. As others said you want a bit of everything, but for young players, reading the game is difficult to find and there is always plenty of time for them to get stronger.

AFAIK Determination does little to how a player devolops, it's based on professionalism.

As far as physical/mental depends on what i'm after. For a winger I usually got for youngsters with good pace + accel already over one with better mental. Most other positions i'd take mental though.

Wrong, determination (combined with work rate and natural fitness) goes leaps and bounds towards development of a player. Check through the forums on here, plenty of threads about it to prove it, one even showing a test some whizzkid made over ten seasons with a player starting out on same attributes with determination being the only variable, stats increase turned out to be massive difference.

The left guy is a suitor as support striker as he has good passing, creativity, decision, long shot. I would say he is best as deep lying forward support. The right guy has good determination, bravery, long shot, strength, jumping, teamwork which makes him a natural supporting target man. Both of them have terrible dribbling, finishing, agility, acle, pace which are vital stats for poacher/advanced so they would do very poor in those roles, you better drop both.

I've seen ones where determination did very little, then changing professionalism caused the massive differences.
It happens on the game for me too, I've got kids with low determination that do way better with ones that have it around 18-20.

I'm not saying it is the only factor, but generally it helps. When I choose youngsters and regens I always do a filter search and look for 14+ on natural fitness, determination and work rate. Providing the other main attributes are okish, very rarely do they turn out badly with some good personalised training, tutors and strategic loan moves. Even wrote a thread on it mate. Trust me, determination is important.
