So FM16 beta has been out for a day now, and i was just wondering what everyone initial thoughts were?

So far, im rather enjoying it. I started a journeyman save today and have found a job at relegation threatened Worcester City and im slowly starting to turn things around. As im in the lower leagues, I havent had a chance to experience some of the bigger club things.

Some of the things ive found so far I like are:

Minor injury details - We have needed this for ages! About time we were told what type of minor injuries out players had in matches

Wide players/Crossing - I dont know if I am the only one, but I have had success playing with wingers crossing the ball into the box on FM15. This time round though it seems to be much better already.

Set-piece Revamp
- The new set piece screen is very nice, makes it very easy to build set pieces and easy to visualise them. I also like that you can save routines and change them in matches.

Injury release clause - Havent had the chance to use this year, but could be a money saves in LLM saves.

Match Engine - Not had a problem with it so far. Seems good to me.

There are a few things I dont like so far, which are:

Tactics screen - I dont like the look of the tactics screen. It looks big and clumpy. I much preferred the older days when the icons were smaller. Everything seems to be a bit messy too with the TI/PI instructions

Player Instructions - I dont know if its just me, but they feel a lot more limited that last season. Everything is almost pre-set already for the specialist roles and im sure last year you got a bit more flexibility.

How about you guys, what do you like/dislike so far?

How are the goalkeepers on the match engine? They looked really dodgy in the youtube videos

They seem ok but i have been playing in 2D mode all day as my laptop isnt great and 3d is a bit choppy. When I get a change to play properly on my PC i will report back.

I dislike that the current thing you are reading on in your inbox is red market.. It used to be red when its marked something you need to respond to.

Yeah, it's great. There are a lot of factors that go into players picking up injuries now. They get injured from collisions/tackles etc now instead of just falling down after kicking a ball. :D

How they pick up injuries are portrayed very well.

Just touching on something Iamauser referred to in the OP. It does seem like the player roles are more defined which leaves you with fewer options as far as PI's are concerned but Ive found, when you do add a PI, the changes it makes are far more evident.

For instance, I instructed one of my fullbacks to sit narrower to help out a CB who was struggling to cope with an opposition forward & the difference in his positioning was immediately obvious. More so then in previous versions I think. Anyone else notice this?

Was far more satisfying when the striker in question immediately become a bystander :)

It's definitely the slickest and most visually appealing Football Manager SI have made so far. I haven't had any success in game but I've only played as my beloved Aston Villa so at least it confirms the game is realistic! I like how you can go to your backroom advice tab straight after a game and they will be advising how to tinker your tactics for the next game and which instructions to add and remove. I know they did this on the last one but i'm pretty sure you had to manually do it all off the back of the "opposition report" (which you also had to either manually request or request to be done regularly by a specific member of staff). I must admit, I do tend to be a bit more of a "plug and play" manager. I'm all for tinkering but it's nice that the backroom staff seem more useful than ever.

Also loading times are roughly 3x faster, it took about half a minute to load FM15, about 10 seconds for FM16. (it really is noticeable)

EPL players are overrated
once i found my wing back without short pass PI. i already set it, canceling wont work. i must re-OK twice so short pass included to PI

I am very happy that the application is running a lot faster than FM15. My only real gripe with FM15 was the application hanging a lot, especially the tactics screen. I assume this is the result of enhanced multi-threading.

I am struggling to get a good run of results which is great. Frustration, turning winning positions into losses & shouting at the screen is the core function of FM as far as I am concerned. I hope I never win a title again!

I thought the FM15 ME was a huge step forward from FM14. I am noticing players in this one behaving more human than in the past. I can almost feel the panic when my players get caught in possession and make bad passes / shots.

It seems will take a little more HDD disk space than FM15 (almost 1GB) but clearly less than FM13 (2GB)

New injury news: if player has a light injury, you can leave him to physio or have him in light training and play with protective gear. It costs a little money.

I've been playing in extended and I still have to confirm this, but from the one corner I saw, it seems set pieces is the same flip out to the player: spend half hour or more designing a set piece routine, see in game how not a single player is where you told him to (I've seen up to that in defending free kicks in FM15).

EDIT: In a match I've realized some set piece instructions weren't as I thought and that's why in set pieces players had not done as asked inFM16 so far. So perhaps they work right again.

I'm quite enjoying it, I've had a horrid time with tactics so far though.

Loving it - seems to be quite a few things that are very different from earlier versions, love them all.

Anyone else than me thats had problems with a wide defense? Seems that the AI is demanding quite a lot from the CBs (compared to FM15) when the wingbacks are going out wide and forward.

Interesting, mostly positive comments. I'm hesitant to buy it this early because I'm pretty sure I have read about how buggy FM15 is in the beginning.

Fortunately this is now FM16.

Still think goalkeepers are bad, first 6 games my GK has made 4 own goals. all where the ball slowly was moving towards him and he did not pick it up before it was over the line. Combine that with jumping out of the way so strikers have and open net, yeah having a horrid time with this

have the player potential being released yet like who are the -10 etc

Happy with the first few hours of game play on the whole not a great deal different in my opinion. Enjoying it though !!

Just a small point.....but could have future implications on the game. The Blur!! Why are they blurring the background during some parts of processing game data. (This is on FM Touch I do not know if it’s the same for full fat version?)

I do not have the quickest PC in the land so during the "Players are Warming up" bit I would normally take a look at the opposition squad and dream away until the load has complete. Now I do not see this just a blurred background and some PRO Zone stats and not a lot more.

This is a bit pants in my opinion and if there is loading to do SI should be make it a better experience NOT worse.

Now the cynic in me tells me this is no accident. I just hope they are not planning some sort of advert offensive in future additions of the game….we need access to your cookies….we see you are a baldy head would you like to buy some German engineering hair cream.

Just a half baked thought but it the only reason I can think of the blurring the background data like this.
