Liverpool FC's 'Ability Counts' team produced an inspired display to defeat Basel Old Boys and lift the trophy at a four team tournament held in Zurich on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds saw off the competition of Werder Bremen and The FIM (Football Is More) All Stars before beating the Swiss outfit 2-1 in the final courtesy of a Warren Worswick double.
Head coach Joe Unsworth was delighted with the team's spirit and overall effort on what was a scorching hot day at the Heerenschurli Stadium.
He said: "It's just fantastic. They really are a great bunch of lads. The team just grew as the tournament went on.
"I can't remember the last time they passed the ball like that, they played some superb stuff at times.
"We were beaten twice by this team (Basel) today but came good when it mattered most. I'm very proud and it caps what has been a great trip overall."
The format of the competition saw Liverpool face each team twice in a mini league, with the top two going on to compete in the final.
The Reds got off to a tough start as they went down to a 2-0 loss against Basel before bouncing back with a 4-1 triumph over the FIM All Stars. Richard Geeson (2) and Worswick (2) were on target.
Worswick was at it again in the next encounter versus Bremen, notching a hat-trick in a 5-2 success. Stephen Hunt and Marcus Darby got the other goals.
Back-to-back defeats against Basel and the FIM All Stars put Liverpool's final place in jeopardy before an emphatic 7-0 win over Bremen eased them into a third showdown with the Swiss outfit.
The Reds were heavy underdogs as the game got underway, but they showed the type of courage and spirit that has been Liverpool's hallmark over the years.
Worswick's 14th and 15th of the day gave them a two goal cushion before Basel reduced the arrears to set up a nail-biting finale.
