Updating via Steam

I know its supposed to do it automatically, but how do you update via Steam, as its not doing it on its own!

Hmm not sure how you update manually via steam. You might need to download the patch from somewhere else.

Mine updated as soon as I launched the game through Steam.

If your not sure its up to date, go to the "games" screen, right click on "football manager 2009" and click on "properties". Once the properties are being show, go to the "local files" and click on "verify integrity of game cache".
Doing that will then check that all the game files are there, and if any are missing it will automatically download and install them.

Always a useful thing to do if steam stops during a patch update - as it happened to me when i was downloading patch 2
