"Sad to be leaving, but I need a new challenge"

Today Wolverhampton Wanderers FC board are delighted to announce that Dan Strong has agreed to become the new manager after Terry Connor called time at the club he told reporters "I need a new challenge". Connor had been at the Molineux for almost 15 years in various roles from coach, assistant manager and then made manager when Mick McCarthy left the club.

Dan Strong gave a quick speech as he stood beside the statue of one of the clubs greatest players Billy Wright, he told waiting fans outside the ground, he is delighted to be given a chance to manage the club that is a prime example of a "Sleeping Giant", and that even though it might take a few years to be at top of table fighting for the title and there might be a few ups and down along the way he was here for the long run and the long term project

Wolves' owner Steve Morgan

Other rumours coming out of the club in last few hours have said that Wolves owner/chairman Steve Morgan has terminated the contracts of all of the current backroom staff as to give the new manager (Dan Strong) a completely clean slate to bring in his own staff and build the club in the way he wishes.

So if the rumours are too believed, the first task for Strong to undertake would be bringing in a completely new backroom setup. Then move onto transfer targets that can take Wolves to the next level and beyond. It is also rumoured that Strong will only have £8.5m to spend of new transfers and £475k p/w to spend on wages, rough estimates show the Wolves are already spending £420k p/w on wages. So it will be interesting to see how Strong will be able to cope with these tight budgets, which are said to be some of the lowest in the Premier League.

Wolves Player Merry-go-round Starts

As it’s a month into the summer transfer window. Dan Strong has started the player revolving door that he hopes will take Wolves from the perennial relegation strugglers to mid table contenders as he starts his long project to take Wolves to the dizzy heights of Premier League title chasers and seasonal Champions League contenders.

Eight players have found their selves on the transfer list as Strongworks out where his weak players are n looks to bring in new players to replacen improve the squad. Strong is looking to ship out Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, GeorgeElokobi, Kevin Foley, Stephen Hunt, Stephen Ward, Richard Stearman, NenadMillias and Ronald Zubar.
Only one player has left has left the club permanently who was Richard Stearman who has left to join Southampton for £2.6m. Two players have left the club on loan, Jamie Reckord has joined Crewe on a six month loan and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has gone to join local club Walsall on a six month loan deal.

The revolving door in to the Molineux hasn’t stopped in the past month. Felix Klaus joined from German club Furth for £800k, Jack Collison came in from West Ham for £5m, Romain Amalfitano was brought from French club Stade Reims, Siphiwe Tshabalala joined from Kaizer Chiefs on a bargain at £325k, Danny Simpson was snapped up from Newcastle United for £2.9m, French youngster Romuald Lacazette was stolen from PSG for £650k, also Mahamadou Diarra joined on a free transfer
after leaving Monaco at end of last season. There are rumours that many more players maybe on the way into Molineux.

Pre-season Results

Wolves had a good pre-season with two games at home against big European clubs in Sporting CP and Fiorentina. Two small teams played away from Molineux as both AFC Telford United and Cheltenham Town both playing host to Wolves. There was also a mini tour to Greece in the middle. Seven games were played, six wins, one draw, twenty three goals scored and only six goals conceded.

First up was the short drive up the M54 to New Bucks Head home to AFC Telford United. It was a very one sided game as a strong Wolves side put the semi-pro Telford team to the sword winning 4-0.
Man of the Match: Michael Kightly (Wolves)

Secondly Sporting CP was entertained at Molineux. The game was exciting and was a typical end to end game; a very even game procession was about equal as was nearly every other stat that was produced. The game finished 2-2
Man of the Match: Steven Fletcher (Wolves)

The trip to Cheltenham Town was the third fixture of the pre-season programme. A reserve/young Wolves side took on the npower league two team at Waddon Road. The score line shows that it was a even game, once again the stats show the game as being very one sided, Wolves just couldn’t finish off their chances, and had to wait until two minutes into injury time before the winner finally came from the boot of Nenad Millias. The Final Score was 3-2.
Man of the Match: Darryl Duffy (Cheltenham)

The mini tour to Greece was next on the pre-season agenda. Three games were planned one was against lower opposition in Panthrakikos; the other two games were against Greece Superleague teams in Panaitolikos and Levaeiakos.

First up was Panthrakikos, it was a horrendously one sided game with Wolves camped inside the oppositions final third for over 20% of the game, they also had over 30% of the possession in the middle third of the pitch, Wolves strolled to a 5-0 win, but it so easily could of been a lot more, once again the needed to find their finishing boots.
Man of the Match: Kevin Doyle (Wolves)

Second game of the mini tour was a trip to the Agrinio region of the country to play against Panaitolikos, once again in this pre-season the possession shows that it was an even game but that’s the only thing that was even as all other stats show a one sided game, the opposition controlled the middle of the park but Wolves were the most clinical team and put away their chances. Final score was 3-1.
Man of the Match: Michael Kightly (Wolves)

Last game of the tour was a game against Levaeiakos who play in the Municipal Stadium of Leivadia. The home side controlled possession but once again Wolves strikers forgot their finishing boots, having twenty three shots but only eight on target. Even though the score line shows otherwise Wolves were lucky to come away with the win and very lucky to come away with a clean sheet. Game finished 3-0
Man of the Match: Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (Wolves)

The last game of the pre-season was against the Italians Fiorentina. Wolves controlled the game throughout the 90 minutes. The Italian side very rarely threatened the Wolves goal, it was only in last four minutes that they finally came forward thats when they sneaked their goal. In terms of goals and the way Wolves played it will be a great boost going into the new Premier League season which kicks off on 14th August away vs. Everton. Games finished 3-1 to Wolves.
Man of the Match: Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (Wolves)

sorry if the pre-season post seems a bit rushed it wasnt till i was almost at the first game of season that i realised how to do the print screen thing
