Sunday, 1st.

[L] Deportivo 03 Espanyol (Vukojevic 4, Gago 56, Guardado 61)

For a change, the second half showed more goals than the first! Midfielder Vukojevic got Espanyol off to a brilliant start by scoring within the first five minutes of the match. Fernando Gago scored 10 minutes after the restart and Andres Guardado scored a perfect free kick to round off a confident and comfortable performance.

Racing have done Espanyol a massive favour by beating Villarreal at home 4-3. There were also 3-0 wins for Valencia, Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid, with Barcelona going one further and thrashing Hercules 4-0. Getafe, Zaragoza, Valladolid and Athletico Madrid all picked up 3 points. No game over the weekend ended in a draw.



Wednesday, 4th.

[L] Racing 1 – 1 Espanyol (Obinna 24)

Espanyol came to Racing today knowing it’d be a tough game a few days after them beating table-toppers Villarreal here. Victor Obinna gave the away side a well-deserved lead through to half time, but poor defending cost them the equaliser in the 64th minute.

Wednesday, 11th.

[E] Espanyol 21 Manchester United (van Persie 51, Valdo 57)

A match in which Espanyol were not particularly bothered in winning, a lot of reserve team players played due to already being qualified. A win surprised everybody – Wayne Rooney scored on 50 minutes, and straight from the kick off, Robin van Persie ran up the field and scored a great goal. Valdo gave Espanyol the lead 6 minutes later to end the scoring and a superb match.

Sunday, 15th.

[L] Real Zaragoza 1 3 Espanyol (Soldado 26, van Persie 44, Valdo 82)

Yet another game in which the home side have excellent form over the past months. Zaragoza took the lead no longer than 3 minutes into the match. Soldado equalised some 20 minutes later, then Dutch inside-forward gave Espanyol the lead before half time. Valdo completed the scoring 8 minutes before the end of the match with a goal of the week effort to conclude a fantastic day out for all involved with Espanyol.

Real Madrid fall 1-0 against Real Betis at their own home turf, much to the shock of everybody. Valencia, Hercules, Getafe, Athletico Madrid, Valladolid and Xerez all celebrate wins, while Barcelona drew 0-0 with Villarreal and Sevilla and Osasina tie 1-1.



Wednesday, 18th.

[L] Espanyol 61 Xerez (Soldado 5, 46, Obinna 22, van Persie 27, 86, Geromel 45)

Espanyol turned their possession into goals with this emphatic win over Xerez. Soldado scored early on with a powerful effort. Obinna doubled Espanyol’s lead with a placed shot on 22 minutes. Van Persie scored 5 minutes later with a great goal. Geromel scored from a corner right before half time, and Soldado added another just after the restart. Robin van Persie scored late in the game to tally the score to 6-1.

ECC First Knockout Draw: Inter Milan vs. Espanyol



Sunday, 22nd.

[L] Espanyol 30 Getafe (Geromel 13, van Persie 27, Obinna 70)

Getafe came to Espanyol fearing a hefty defeat, and that’s exactly what they got. Centre back Geromel towered above everyone to score in the second game running from a sweet corner by Guardado. Cultured winger Robin van Persie doubled Espanyol’s lead with a powerful effort on 27 minutes. With 20 minutes to go, Victor Obinna completed the rout with a superb strike from outside the box.

Apart from Espanyol, not one team from the top 7 won their respective matches: Barca drew 1-1 with Racing, Villarreal lost to Sevilla, Real Madrid were defeated at Valencia, Athletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 by Deportivo, and Getafe lost to the leaders. There were also wins for Almeria, Real Betis and Real Zaragoza.

Cheers, yeah, thought I'd rush a month. Turned out to be a good one too.

I'm hoping to get a lot done in the next two days due to a week off XD expect big signings.. (A)

Wednesday, 1st.

Espanyol player in World Team of the Year. Roberto Soldado was selected amongst the substitutes in the World Team of the Year for 2013. He also came 3rd as Striker of the Year.


Thursday, 2nd.

Espanyol bid for Villa and Criscito. Both players’ contracts run out in the summer, and Espanyol manager Wayne Thomas is the first to react.

Criscito has said to be not interested in a move to Espanyol, so the manager has offered £110,000 per week. David Villa wants £80,000 weekly.


Sunday, 5th.

[L] Tenerife 01 Espanyol (Pareja 15)

Espanyol only managed one goal in 13 shots, 8 of which were on target. Nicolas Pareja, Epsnayol’s current longest serving player, scored the goal with a fine long-distance strike 15 minutes into the game.

Real Madrid lost yet again, this time at the hands of Athletico Madrid. Villarreal beat Almeria away 5-1. Barcelona beat Valladolid by a comfortable 3-0 scoreline. Xerez, Getafe and Bilbao all recorded victories.


Monday, 6th.

Espanyol in bid for young starlet. Galatasaray’s 17-year-old right winger Idris Yildirim has take Espanyol boss Wayne Thomas’ fancy. He is dubbed the new Cristiano Ronaldo of Turkey, and with an offer of £6.2M for the player he is sure to be one for the future.


Thursday, 9th.

[C] Real Madrid 1 – 2 Espanyol (Soldado 22, Obinna 75)

A fantastic game to watch! Roberto Soldado scored the only first half goal. Encouragement was shown to the Espanyol players at half time, and it worked as Obinna ran the length of the pitch to score a one-on-one against Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas. Jose got Madrid’s consolation goal.

Friday, 10th.

Arsenal in bid for van Persie. The Dutchman’s former club come in with a highly tempting bid of £22M for him. This will smash Arsenal’s transfer record and Espanyol’s income. It is believed that Wayne Thomas declined the amazing offer.

Idris Yildirim set to sign for Espanyol. The Turkish youngster will move to the Spanish champions on 2nd July.


Sunday, 11th.

[L] Espanyol 81 Real Mallorca (Gago 8, van Persie 10, Obinna 16, 90+3, Soldado 23, pen 62, 87, 89)

Real Mallorca knew they were coming to an Espanyol side full of confidence, and were on the defence from the first minute. They didn’t know what they were in for as Fernando Gago scored within the first 10 minutes. Robin van Persie doubled the lead on 10 minutes, then Obinna scored Espanyol’s third 6 minutes later. The home side went 4-0 up through Soldado before Mallorca pulled one back, but a superb second half hat-trick and four goals in total for Roberto Soldado finished off a stunning display and a poor Mallorca.

Once again, all results go Espanyol’s way as they go 10 points clear half way through the season. Barcelona lost to Xerez, while Getafe were defeated at Valencia. Villarreal and Athletico Madrid lost at home to Athletic Bilbao and Real Zaragoza respectively, whilst Madrid only managed a 0-0 draw at Hercules. Valladolid and Betis also won.


Wednesday, 15th.

[C] Espanyol 1 – 1 Real Madrid – Espanyol win 3 – 2 on aggregate (Valdo pen 48)

Espanyol fielded only two first team players – Roberto Soldado and Victor Obinna – due to a lack of players in that area. The rest of the positions were filled with kids and reserves. Edinson Cavani of Real Madrid slotted home the first goal on 24 minutes, and Sergio Ramos gave a away a penalty just after half time. Valdo tucked away the penalty.

Espanyol place bids for couple. Manager Wayne Thomas has said to be bringing in two backup strikers as they lack players in that area. These players are Lerato Chabangu and Marc Janko.


Thursday, 16th.

Arsenal not giving up on van Persie. Arsenal have upped their bid to £26.3M in order to tempt the player away from Espanyol. Again, the offer was rejected.


Friday, 17th.

Marc Janko offer rejected. Wayne Thomas plays it cool and declines making another offer.

Sunday, 19th.

[L] Xerez 12 Espanyol (Gago 34, van Persie 58)

Xerez play this weekend coming off the back of a brilliant 1-0 win against Barcelona. Espanyol however scored 8 the last time they played a league match. The away side did take the lead through Fernando Gago, Espanyol’s highest goalscoring midfielder this season. Xerez equalised right after the break through Jonathan Cristaldo. Robin van Persie got the winner just before the hour mark with a superb strike from the edge of the box.

Wednesday, 24th.

Lerato Chabangu signs for Espanyol. It is believed the backup striker will play in his first competitive match tomorrow night against Tenerife in the Spanish Cup Quarter Final.


Thursday, 23rd.

[C] Tenerife 12 Espanyol (Soldado 14, van Persie 63)

Espanyol field a common 11 and it proves worthwhile as captain Soldado scores quarter of an hour into the game, and van Persie scores just after the hour mark. Ayoze got the only reply for Tenerife 20 with minutes to go.

A tactical error by Wayne Thomas gifted Real Betis the win here. A team full of reserves and youngsters was fielded yet again, but this time proved costly as Waldo Ponce scored the only goal 15 minutes from time.

[C] Espanyol 31 TenerifeEspanyol win 5 – 2 on aggregate (Ivan 26, 77, Geromel 70)

Espanyol ease into the semi finals as they beat a weak Tenerife. 17-year-old striker Ivan scored a brace, one goal either side of half time, and Geromel sealed the victory with a great header from a corner 20 minutes from the end of the match. Rochina got Tenerife’s consolation 2 minutes from time.

The win puts Espanyol through to the semi final against Deportivo.

[L] Valencia 0 – 2 Espanyol (Sagna 3, Chabangu 47)

A debut goal by striker Lerato Chabangu was the second of two goals in a great game for Espanyol. Bacary Sagna gave them the lead on 3 minutes after cutting inside a defender and slotting past the keeper. Chabangu scored a header from a corner after the break.

With Victor Obinna still travelling internationally, it gave a chance to new signing Lerato Chabangu to prove he is more than just a backup player, and how he did it! Scoring 4 goals out of 5, the South African showed he is clinical to the inch when in front of goal. Soldado scored on half an hour before Chabangu banged in 4 goals, including the second half hat-trick. Athletico Madrid just couldn’t handle the pressure and the little Lerato Chabangu.

Espanyol’s crushing victory over a sorry Athletico Madrid was the only notable scoreline over the weekend. Real Madrid did beat Valladolid 3-0 though, whilst there were victories for Barcelona and Villarreal. Sevilla, Almeria and Getafe all lost.

Victor Obinna returned from international on a high and scored all three goals for Espanyol in a fantastic performance away from home. He scored after quarter of an hour, then after half an hour. Chabangu scored, but was ruled offside, but 5 minutes later, Obinna, just after the hour mark, scored again to seal the win. Depor scored 2 minutes later, but was nothing more than a consolation goal.

The win puts Espanyol up against Barcelona in the final.

[L] Hercules 11 Espanyol (Soldado 60)

Captain Roberto Soldado scored the only goal for Espanyol on a disappointing night. Bacary Sagna’s second own goal of the campaign 13 minutes from time gave Hercules the opportunity to pressurise more and push for the win. The match finished 1-1.

What a turnaround for Espanyol! 2-1 down at half time, and the manager demanding nothing less than a win. It really kicked them up the **** and they performed outstandingly. Villarreal were 2-0 after just 26 minutes against a full-strength Espanyol side thanks to goals from Luisao and Jozy Altidore. Robin van Persie pulled one back 10 minutes before half time. The second half was all a blur as Fernando Gago equalised, then van Persie put them into the lead. Victor Obinna completed the comeback with a stunning strike.

Soldado is by far the most inspirational signing I've made, let alone the best. He is a beast on the field, only wish I had more players like him :'(
