A campaign has kicked off at Westminster to make Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson a Lord.
Two Labour MPs from Manchester - Graham Stringer and Tony Lloyd - have tabled a Commons motion calling for the 69-year-old Scot to be awarded a peerage.
Stringer and Lloyd argue that football should be represented in the House of Lords because of its "economic, social, cultural" importance.
Ferguson led United to a record 19th league title in May.
That was the 12th Premier League crown the Red Devils had won under Ferguson, who has also captured the Champions League twice, the Cup Winners' Cup, the FA Cup five times and the League Cup on four occasions.
He also led Aberdeen to three Scottish League titles, four Scottish Cups, the Scottish League Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup.
A lifelong socialist, Ferguson was knighted in 1999 when Tony Blair was Prime Minister.

THE MOTION IN FULL
"That this House recognises the economic, social, cultural and sporting importance of football to the United Kingdom; is therefore surprised at the paucity of representatives from the world of football in the Upper House; further notes that Sir Alex Ferguson, as the manager of Aberdeen and Manchester United, is the most successful manager in the history of British football; and calls for him to be recommended for appointment to the House of Lords."

My View:

Clearly i would love for Alex to become a lord... But maybe when he retires.

EDIT: Please try and reframe from just insulting Sir Alex please.. For those of you with the wits to have an opinion on whether Football need a rep in the house of lords..? Whats your thought on this. Sir Alex for me is the right man from football, as the most successful manager in British footbal. If not who would you suggest and why

Christ. It's bad enough that bacon face is knighted, let alone being made a lord.

Hate the man and his lack of respect.

in my opinion you shoudn't be made a lord just because you won trophies as a football manager.

There are many, many other people who deserve it more than him. He lacks respect to officials, as his constant fines and bans show, yes he's a great manager; but never ever a lord.

Wait, a guy called Lord because of football? Oh my god , this world has no future.

Sir Matt Busby
Lord Alex Ferguson

Bob Paisley
Bill Shankly
Kenny Dalglish

Spot the difference

I am the Lord of 'the Shrubbery' which is the name of my house, it is also the land I own so I am the landlord and the lord of the land.
Take that Fergie, <)

I think it shows how football has moved on from more then just a game tbh..

As the article said, it has socia and economical values.

I think this is a good idea, he is argubably the best manager of the most popular sport in the world and has won trophey after trophey in it. He's the manager of one of the biggest clubs in the world and has worked with and in some cases developed some of the best players to play football and some of the most famous people in the world for example David Beckham. Congrats Fergie if this happens :)

Erm... Why isn't Kenny a Lord? Give me a break, football is entertainment, in my opinion footballers get paid tooooo much, and now a MANAGER can be called a LORD? This is why the world is a ******* disgrace... When people give more attention to what a FOOTBALL MANAGER have achieved in his carreer thn to a man that works every single day to give food to his family, you know that something IS wrong.
