Hello people,

Ever since I got Football Manager 2010,I have never been able to seemingly get through one season with any club, neither have I been able to win a prestigious competition and beat a team that were supposedly the better ones.I really do need help and tips on how to go through at least one season.Any club will do.

Ok,so maybe I was lying when I said I hadn't completed a full season.I did that with Manchester City and finish 4th,using JP Woody's fluid 4-4-2 tactics.I bought Stevan Jovetic,Riquelme,Fabio Aurelio and even Edin Dzeko - for £39million,in which I would proceed to almost purchasing Didier Drogba for £95million from Chelsea. That was my real first time in going through the whole game.

I have never completed a season on any FM title with Manchester United, nor have I on FM10.

These are my problems:

  • I lack concentration
  • I make poor signings
  • I can never really forge my own tactics that will get me on a winning streak of some sort.
  • The majority of the time I get sacked.
  • I keep having to download tactics off the site, much to my reluctance.
  • I can never really find good enough players.
It may be quite a silly thread to post, but these things are making me more likely to quit playing FM altogether.Any tips? Please post.

Cheers.

anyone with any tips?

Try playing as a team you don't have all the money in the world so you actually have to work to get a good team?

If that doesn't work, I suggest you play pong.

Buy young players, such as Lukaku, and make them develop by playing them, makes me more intrested in a game if I have had a hand the development of the players I am using.

Also after the 1st season, hunt around for Regens, and then you can train them up aswell :)

And last but not least, tactics help?

Hate downloading other people's tactics tbh and Tactical Theorems hasn't really done much good.Tips? (A)

Try being a random team without massive expectations? so if you do **** then you wont be sacked?

I've done big teams and won comps, midtable top league sides and done alright with them too, my latest is trying my hand at LLM.

My hardest side was Portsmouth, did a couple of seasons, the fact I didnt get bored was probably because it was such a challange but in the end losing 9 points in like the 3rd or 4th season(not to sure which it was) I was getting bored because even at times I like to win a few games on the bounce lol.

Currently I'm about 9 games into my first season with Burton Albion (on it atm) and its really addictive, not knowing no lower leagues players other than ***** Topp made it even harder. To make things harder I've not looked for no help for LL players on the site nor got tactics, doing it all myself and currently I'm like 6th.

So just have a change of scenery wether it be a different league or country. Dont worry if you lose some think we've all had the games that do our heads in lol.

Hope this helps.

- Firstly you should set yourself targets. I set a target for the end of the season, plus monthly points targets, this helps motivate you.
- Secondly, I would suggest creating your own tactic. Try to create a tactic to suit your team, otherwise you could create a tactic reflecting the way you would like your team to play, however this would take longer for your team to adjust to and you would most likely have to buy the players to fit the tactic.
- Don't just sign players for the sake of it, buy players for the positions which you require and make sure they have the correct stats, etc. to suite your tactic. I would also suggest buying youth players for the future.

Also, try a team that would be more of a challenge, as playing with the likes of Man City is very easy and therefore tends to get boring.

Depends what team you decide to play as, look at how they play in real life, if they are playing **** in real life, try using a tactic that you think uses all the strengths of the players you have at your disposal, if the team is doing well, try creating there current tactic for your game.

If all else fails, just ask your assistant, but I personally would play a 4-3-3 with Birmingham for example because of their players, other teams I would maybe play more attacking formation and others more defensive. Also it is good to have a home and away tactics, especially if you come up against a big team, you dont want to go gung ho and get raped.

The main thing is, tactis might not work straight away, players need time to gel and adjust to the tactic. It took me 2 seasons to get my birmingham tactic right, and since then I have won pretty much every competition I have been in, mainly using youngsters I have developed.

Hope this helps.

I find just a basic lay out of what formation you want to play, like atm im using a 442 with attacking wingers and just go from there tweak it, use assistants help if you need too, dont forget onfield shouting seems to help alot :D Try a few friendlies till you start to play well AND dont let them become inconsistent.

Nicely said!

For me it really doesn't sink in but the help is very much helping me.

This is going to be quite hard still. :(

Making a tactic? Im pretty **** at them but i try lol

I have like attacking wingers for Burton, 2 pocachers cos my forwards are pretty **** lol, to CM's one set as defensive one attacking/support depending who I'm playing. Limited defenders, automatic fullbacks/defensive depending again.

Pretty basic with short passing seems be doing ok and i havent bothered with the advanced stuff because that's when i'd do **** lol

Personaly i use the backroom advice

you just go to your team and click backroom advice

your staff give suggestions on who to buy and sell what formations to play and tactics to use against your next opponents

i find the advice very useful and its helped me out on many occasions

I like to play counter-attacking football, built with a strong defence and pacy wingers, not necessarily playing a one-man tactic with an AM in it.

But I never seem to find the right players, let alone the right team for it.I tried to do it with Aston Villa.Played for about 26 games and then finally got the sack because we were 19th in the table.Horrendous.

Lmao, harsh! been there myself, try and keep it simple? i find using like DMs and AMs just make it harder for me to win games, simples works, why not try? its only way i seem to win games. Lol.

Do you use the tactics creator yes?

Not really, tbh. The tactics creator doesn't seem to really help me,I just find making it from scratch a bit better.

Another one.Recently tried my hand at playing Southampton.Brought in Gavin McCann,Bryan Hughes,Lauren and Joe Lewis to the team.Playing a solid 4-4-1-1 with Lallana as attacking midfielder and Rickie Lambert Advanced Forward.22 games through and we sat still 24th till I got sacked.Again.Pure pisstake.

In my Villa save, I play 4-1-3-2 basically, so I have a flat back four, all set to defend, a DM set to defend, CM as advanced mid attack, two wingers, a target man and advanced forward. From there I look at my players and decide which players fit my tactic and which do not, as well as where I need more cover etc. So for example if I were to have a very attack minded FB, he would be surplus to requirements and would be sold off.

And you would replace him how? Do you have a rough shortlist in your mind about what players you would think fit the tactic or you just go shopping?

Ermmm tacitcs arent my strong point, BUT, if you keep a flat back 4 why not try them as wingbacks defending? cos then they will still launch crosses in for your target man? do you keep it balanced on your philosophy? or fluid etc? that might make a difference if you can get the right one I guess.

I try keep things roughly the same and just change them a little bit before each game if I feel the need too anall, thats about as much advice as i can give lol
